Sprint takes a pass on BlackBerry’s first new smartphone

Sprint takes a pass on BlackBerry’s first new smartphone:
BlackBerry Z10 Sprint
BGR confirmed some of the best news BlackBerry could possibly get late last week, but not everyone is convinced that the BlackBerry Z10 will have the same draw in the United States. The nation's No.3 carrier Sprint (S) recently confirmed to Bloomberg that it will be the only top carrier in the U.S. to pass on BlackBerry's (BBRY) first next-generation smartphone. Instead, Sprint will wait for the BlackBerry Q10 before it gives the new BlackBerry 10 platform any support. "We aren’t saying there’s anything different about our customers," a Sprint spokesperson said. "We think our customers will be happy with the qwerty keyboard and touch screen on the Q10."

‘Modest’ BlackBerry Z10 sales, upcoming Galaxy S IV launch could hurt BlackBerry:
BlackBerry Earnings Preview Q4 2013
A string of upbeat reports has sent BlackBerry's (BBRY) stock climbing in recent months, but the end is nigh according to one industry watcher. Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley again tried to chase clients away from BlackBerry shares on Monday, suggesting that "modest" BlackBerry Z10 sales and big competition from the likes of Samsung's (005930) Galaxy S IV could spell doom for BlackBerry's stock in the coming quarters.

Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley issued his monthly handset sales estimates for the month of February early Monday morning, and he found that Apple's iPhone 5 was the best-selling smartphone at each of the three major U.S. carriers where the phone is sold.

BlackBerry scores another big win as German government adopts the Z10

BlackBerry scores another big win as German government adopts the Z10:
BlackBerry Z10 German Government
Chalk up another potentially impressive customer win for BlackBerry (BBRY). German site AreaMobile claims that German chancellor Angela Merkel and "other secret sources in ministries and federal agencies" will use the Z10 due to its impressive security features that put it a cut above rival devices from Apple (AAPL) and Samsung (005930). AreaMobile says that the Z10 will account for roughly half of the 10,000 secure devices issued to members of the German government, while Samsung's Galaxy S II and Galaxy S III make up the other half. While reports of Z10 sales have been mixed overall, the consensus seems to be that BlackBerry's first BlackBerry 10 device is off to a solid start and has succeeded in convincing some iOS and Android users to give the company a second look.

The White House responds: phones and tablets should be unlockable

The White House responds: phones and tablets should be unlockable: The system looks like it's working. We the people signed a petition on We The People. We wanted our voices heard on the topic of being able to legally unlock our carrier-locked cell phones, and the White House has responded. And, interestingly, the White House fully agrees with our complaints, and wants to go a step farther and make sure that tablets are free to be unlocked as well...
