Samsung Galaxy S8 display rumored to carry 4K resolution and support for VR

Samsung Galaxy S8 display rumored to carry 4K resolution and support for VR:

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is still more than four months away from getting unveiled, but that hasn't prevented analysts from trying to figure out what the manufacturer is up to. One thought is that Samsung will turn to a UHD resolution display for the Galaxy S8. That works out to 2160 x 3840. The current resolution found on QHD screens used on high end models like the Samsung Galaxy S7 is 1440 x 2560.

Samsung has a good reason to bump up the resolution on the Galaxy S8's screen. The company wants the display to support VR right out of the box. But there is a high price to pay in terms of battery ...

Google Pixel XL dimensions revealed alongside 360-degree renders

Google Pixel XL dimensions revealed alongside 360-degree renders:

It's no secret that Google is getting ready to announce two new smartphones on October 4. But these won't be Nexus phones, because Google wants to start anew with a Pixel family of handsets, which will likely include a 5-inch Pixel, and a 5.5-inch Pixel XL.

We've already seen various images depicting both the Pixel and Pixel XL, and today we can take another look at the latter, thanks to renders revealed by @OnLeaks (a reliable source). Reportedly, the renders are based on a factory CAD, so they should provide a pretty accurate representation of the real device.

Google’s Pixel phones stole the wrong feature from Apple’s iPhone 7

Google’s Pixel phones stole the wrong feature from Apple’s iPhone 7:

Pixel XL vs. iPhone 7 Plus vs. Galaxy S7 edge
Come early October, Google will launch its 2016 flagship phones: these are HTC-made, Pixel-branded premium smartphones that will run a customized version of Android and cost you quite a bit more than you're used to spending for a Google phone. They’ll also look very much like an iPhone 7, at least the front side — not that it’s a bad thing at this point. While many of the specs and features of the Pixel and Pixel XL are already known, a new report says the phones won’t be able to handle water spills very well at all.

If only Google had followed Apple's lead here and made the phones water-resistant, instead of following Apple's lead elsewhere.

Giant E Ink Screens Turn Trucks Into Dynamic Rolling Billboards:

Despite the gloriously colorful screens used in devices like the new iPhone 7, monochromatic E Ink displays have remained a popular choice for devices like e-readers since they’re cheap, durable, and work fine in direct sunlight. It also means they’re the perfect technology for turning trucks into in-your-face rolling billboards.

Samsung will start selling the Galaxy Note 7 again on September 28

Samsung will start selling the Galaxy Note 7 again on September 28:

Samsung is struggling to replace all potential faulty Galaxy Note 7 units sold after the flagship hit shelves, as quickly as possible. The company introduced an exchange program in the United States where customers can choose replace their Galaxy Note 7 with a new one, switch to another Samsung smartphone, or ask for a full refund.

Similar exchange programs, but with fewer choices, are available in all other 9 countries where the Galaxy Note 7 went on sale weeks ago.

After the company's official statement issued today, we understand that the Galaxy Note 7 replacement units will arrive ...

Apple reportedly wants to ship 100 million iPhone 7 devices by the end of 2016

Apple reportedly wants to ship 100 million iPhone 7 devices by the end of 2016:

According to a DigiTimes report, Apple has established a goal of shipping 100 million iPhone 7 devices by the end of this year. This is significantly higher than earlier supplier predictions of up to 85 million units. Of course, Apple will have to respond to the actual demand for the devices, which ought to be reliably assessed after mid-October.

While component orders for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus turned out higher than previously estimated, initial orders for the smartphone were 15% to 25% lower than those for the 6s series from a year earlier. Still, the iPhone 7 is ...

Google Pixel XL and Pixel (née Nexus Sailfish and Marlin) rumor review: design, specs, features, release date

Google Pixel XL and Pixel (née Nexus Sailfish and Marlin) rumor review: design, specs, features, release date:

Each and every year, die-hard Android fans are waiting for one thing, and one thing only - the release of that year's Nexus lineup. Indeed, many die-hard fans consider Nexus devices to be the hardware paragons of the whole idea behind the "Android experience" and owning one is considered a vital requirement for anyone deeming themselves fans of the platform.

We wouldn't endorse such crude generalizations, but truth is that for many people the leitmotif is "Nexus or bust".

Frankly, we could see why that's true to many. ...

Look at the glass screen protector pictured on the iPhone at the top of this post. Yes, screen protectors are a necessity just like protective cases because they help prevent damage in the event of a drop. But Apple spent so much time and effort designing a gorgeous phone... do you really want to mess up the look with an ugly piece of glass glued to the face of your handset?

In this post, we'll show you four screen protectors for Apple's newest iPhones that cover the entire face of your phone so that they're just about invisible to anyone who isn't holding your phone right in front of his or her face.

Preorder records are getting smashed as people go crazy over Apple’s boring new iPhone 7

Preorder records are getting smashed as people go crazy over Apple’s boring new iPhone 7:

iPhone 7 Sales
Apple confirmed last week that it does not plan to release opening-weekend sales numbers for the iPhone 7, launching industry watchers and bloggers into a frenzy. Apple obviously knows that no one wants its boring new iPhone 7, right?! Well, the reality of the situation is likely a bit more involved than that. Several factors undoubtedly led to Apple's decision, and decreased demand could certainly be one of them. If preorder interest is any indication though, all the tech bloggers and analysts who have been calling Apple's latest iPhones "boring" are in for something of a rude awakening once earnings season comes back around.

New Galaxy S8 leak reveals more curved screens

New Galaxy S8 leak reveals a key feature not everyone is going to like:

Galaxy S7 Edge MKBHD
For as much as Samsung gets ragged on for looking to the iPhone for design inspiration, the South Korean tech giant beat Apple at its own game when it released the alluring Galaxy S6 last year. Featured an eye-catching curved display, some critics questioned the utility of the design and were quick to call it a gimmick. That didn’t matter much, though, because most reviewers and users were big fans of the device’s sleek new design. In fact, Samsung was completely caught off-guard by the immense popularity of the S6 edge and had to re-calibrate its supply in order to meet surging and unexpectedly high demand. One year later, when the S7 edge was released, sales of the premium model actually outpaced the flat-screened S7 model, according to reports. With those two data points in tow, it perhaps shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that Samsung has some interesting plans in the works for its upcoming S8 models.

The dual camera system Apple introduced on the recently unveiled iPhone 7 Plus is set to remain exclusive to the 5.5-inch Plus model when Apple releases what will likely be called the iPhone 8 next year. Citing cost issues along with product differentiation concerns, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo relays that we might have to wait until 2018 before Apple's advanced new camera system trickles down to the company's 4.7-inch iPhone model.

Video gives 360 degree look at a Google Sailfish (Pixel) render

Video gives 360 degree look at a Google Sailfish (Pixel) render:

The Google Sailfish, along with the Google Marlin, are two HTC built devices that will either be the next Nexus models, or will kick off a new Pixel handset line. If the latter is true, the smaller Sailfish would be called the Google Pixel. The Marlin would then be called the Google Pixel XL. Today, a video surfaced that takes us on a 360 degree video tour of a Sailfish render.

From the video, we can see that the Sailfish sports a USB Type-C port and has a pair of stereo speakers on the bottom of the phone. While the 3.5mm jack isn't seen in the video, HTC did not copy Motorola or Apple. ...
