The cheap iPhone rumor refuses to die

The cheap iPhone rumor refuses to die:

iPhone 6c Release Date 2016

Many previous reports have said that Apple is also developing a smaller iPhone version in addition to the 4.7-inch iPhone 6s and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus. Dubbed the iPhone 6c, the device supposedly has a 4-inch display and specs that match last year’s iPhone 6. The rumors said Apple will launch the device in early 2016, and a new report seems to indicate that the iPhone maker might indeed be working on a cheaper iPhone.

Does security awareness training even work?

Does security awareness training even work?:

The other day, I was in a room full of CIOs, CTOs and CISOs who -- as an ice-breaking activity -- were asked to share a bad security habit. One after the other admitted to bad password hygiene, such as reusing passwords.

I was the only one in the room who used password management software, and that was only because I'd just written an article about it.

If even well-educated security experts mess up when it comes to security, can we really educate average employees to be more security aware?

Apple receives patent that could lead to an iPhone 7 with a curved and flexible display

Apple receives patent that could lead to an iPhone 7 with a curved and flexible display:

Apple has been awarded a patent for an application it filed in 2013 for a curved screen. The interesting thing is that Apple's patent not only covers a curved display like the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, it also covers the ability to make the screen flexible. With such a display, Apple's screen could show more content than a competitor's screen, without having to increase its size. For example, Apple could fold the screen in a way that video or still images would appear to look as though they were coming from a continuous loop.

With the patent, Apple could make the iPhone a cylinder, a sphere, ...

Housley spearheads InFocus expansion plans:

Housley spearheads InFocus expansion plans

InFocus has appointed Mark Housley as CEO alongside wider expansions in its team and product range. InAVate catches up with Housley to find out what his growth plans are for EMEA and APAC as well as what he sees for the future presentation spaces and collaboration.

Housley, who has been member of InFocus’ board since 2009, will focus on new regions and development of products with strategic partners. The company cites recent success of a Foxconn collaboration that has spawned combined videoconferencing whiteboard products, large format touch displays and projection.

InFocus will also target specific emerging markets, such as India, China, Taiwan, Indonesia and parts of Europe.

“We will look for places where growth infrastructure exists,” explains Housley. “We’re strategically opportunistic and will look for partners and products where we can be successful not just selling millions, but hundreds of millions of products to bolster substantial growth. We’ll continue to look at urbanising areas where businesses need to connect the same way they do in other progressive markets and we’ll be there with the solutions that enable success.”

In terms of future product development Housley points out that InFocus grew up as a projector company.

However, he continues: “But the 21st century workplace lives in a connected world, and InFocus now has the channel, products and customers to make collaboration happen. Now, we develop end-to-end solutions specifically designed to improve communication, improve collaboration while eliminating the need to travel. We believe videoconferencing, digital whiteboards, projection and interactive touchscreens are the products that are going to help teams collaborate, save money and increase business.

“Currently, we have all types of products that will connect you. We still have projection for large rooms and schools but now we’ve added integration that enables collaboration with mobile devices.”

With presentation and collaboration options evolving and increasing, InAVate asked Housley if projection would remain relevant for meeting spaces and classrooms in the future.

“There are many applications for which projectors make perfect sense,” he answers. “Especially large areas and in education. Projectors are unbeaten for applications that need a larger and more affordable image than a panel can provide. We’ll continue to innovate and lead in projection.

“But we also know that technology in the meeting and classroom is changing and while projectors are a great start, and still have their place, there’s so much more that we can and do make to solve these demands for a connected world, especially in the area of video conferencing. We’re motivated by constantly improving how connections happen around the world and we have the opportunity and capability to fulfil on that commitment.”

Raymond Yu, who has been serving as interim CEO, will retain his role as InFocus president.

Previously, Housley served as CEO of several companies, including Vigilent, Radius and Glimmerglass and served on the board of directors at Portrait Displays and Apton Biosystems. He was also part of the leadership teams at IBM, Media 100 and Siemens as well as being on the founding team of Splash Technology and Silicon Wireless.

Square Trade: Apple iPhone 6s more durable than Samsung Galaxy Note5:

Extended warranty provider Square Trade put the Apple iPhone 6s and Apple iPhone 6s Plus through a series of "torture tests" and discovered that the this year's models might be the sturdiest iPhones ever built. Both iPhone models scored well on bendability with the iPhone 6s Plus actually scoring better than the iPhone 6s and the Samsung Galaxy Note5. The latter had a terrible score for surviving a face down drop, and all three models, while not officially waterproof, will apparently survive getting wet. Just the other day, we showed you a video of both new iPhone models submerged in water for ...

Identity theft hit 7% of US population last year

Identity theft hit 7% of US population last year:

Almost 18 million people were victims of identity theft in the United States last year, with the majority of crimes targeting credit cards and bank accounts, the Department of Justice said Sunday.

The figure represents 7 percent of the U.S. population aged 16 or older and is a rise of 1 million people from 2012, the last year for which the DOJ's Bureau of Justice Statistics published a similar report.

The latest report counts instances where a person experienced misuse of a financial or other account -- not simply a breach of their personal information.

MORE ON CSO: How to spot a phishing email

Just over two in every five cases involved a credit card account and just under two in five involved a bank account.

Healthcare firms three times more likely to see data breaches:

Companies in the healthcare sector are three times more likely to encounter data theft than the average firm, according to a report released this morning.

The industry also sees 340 percent more security incidents and attacks than usual, said Carl Leonard, principal security analyst at Raytheon|Websense, which produced the report based on analysis of real-time security telemetry feeds from global healthcare organizations.

Healthcare is also 400 percent more likely to be hit by advanced malware, 450 percent more likely to be hit by Cryptowall, and 74 percent more likely to get phishing emails.

Ransomware in particular could be very damaging to healthcare organizations, since the integrity of health records could literally mean life and death for patients.

“Global pro AV market worth €102bn in 2016” - Infocomm:

“Global pro AV market worth €102bn in 2016” - Infocomm

InfoComm International has announced the release of seven research studies commissioned to investigate trends in various customer segments served by the pro AV industry.

InfoComm commissioned Acclaro Growth Partners, which has worked in the past on the association's Global Market Definition and Strategy Study (MDSS), to conduct an international vertical markets study. Among the goals was to explore the profiles of people who buy AV goods and services and the decision-making criteria they employ.

According to InfoComm's 2014 MDSS, the worldwide market for pro-AV products and services grew to $91.8 billion in 2014, from $75.5 billion in 2012. It is projected to hit $114.2 billion in 2016.

Other highlights from the InfoComm Vertical Markets Studies:

• Corporate: The growing influence of consumer products is changing employee expectations of AV technology in the workplace. Employee usage of technology at home in their everyday lives is driving corporations to invest in AV solutions in the workplace.
• Education: End users in this market acknowledge that AV technology contributes to delivering greater outcomes. AV is no longer a luxury; it has become a ‘must have’ in order to attract students.
• Retail: Most of the growth in this segment is in the high- end of the retail segment, while the low end is more cost conscious and driven by the trend to lower-cost displays and out-of-the-box digital signage offerings.
• Government: As in the corporate market, government customers are investing in AV solutions for training and meeting rooms, with a particular demand for mobile and video collaboration. Government remains an influential sector of the global pro-AV market by influencing the purchases of other customer segments.
• Healthcare: The goal of many healthcare end users is to invest in technologies that reduce costs while improving outcomes. So far, the bulk of the opportunity is on the enterprise side of the healthcare market, rather than specialized patient-facing technology. There is also a high demand for AV technology in medical education facilities.
• Hospitality: AV is in high demand in the hospitality segment, driven by guest expectations. With the hotel and cruise industries growing worldwide, implementing guest-facing AV technologies is of growing importance for brand competition.
• Venues: The tech-savvy public has high expectations for their experiences at event venues. Large and small venues worldwide are adopting the latest technologies in order to remain competitive and drive sales.

The seven InfoComm 2015 Vertical Markets End-User Perspective Studies offer critical insight into the corporate, education, government, retail, healthcare, hospitality and venue (including house of worship) markets.

Each in-depth study is roughly 80 pages and based on secondary research and interviews with technology end users around the world. The vertical market studies are available now for purchase, with discounts for InfoComm members. Click here more information.
