VGA, DVI Display Interfaces to Bow Out in Five Years: Farewell VGA, farewell DVI we hardly knew ye. As technology progresses, we leave things by the wayside in the name of progress. The CD player and the floppy drive are good examples and now, within a very few years, we will be losing the familiar display interfaces most of us grew up with.

The VGA and DVI interfaces, introduced in 1986 and 1999, respectively, had no clear upgrade paths, O'Rourke said. The DVI interface was developed and went through one minor upgrade cycle, but its road has now ended.
