RIM CEO Thorsten Heins: BlackBerry 10 has ‘clear shot’ at being No.3:

There’s no question that
RIM (
RIMM), maker of the once-mighty
BlackBerry, has fallen behind in the wake of
iOS and
Android. After showing off
BlackBerry 10′s new features and explaining his plans to revive the company, CEO Thorsten Heins told press attending BlackBerry Jams Americas on Tuesday: “We have a clear shot at being the No. 3 platform in the market. Carriers want other platforms. And we’re not just another open platform running on another system. We’re BlackBerry.” Whether RIM can actually deliver on its promise is anybody’s guess. Android and iOS currently hold the top two spots for smartphone operating system market share and
Symbian brings up the rear. RIM’s
BlackBerry 10 will be squaring off with
Microsoft’s (
MSFT)
Windows Phone 8 for third-place when it debuts in the first quarter of 2013.
